SUMMARY:Free Live Webinar - Never-Ending Acronym Madness: NAMs & Animal Research
DESCRIPTION:Never-Ending Acronym Madness: NAMs & Animal Research\nThursday\, June 18\, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. ET\nThe acronym “NAMs” is used inconsistently across scientific and regulatory communities\, contributing to confusion and misaligned expectations. This webinar examines the evolving landscape of NAMs definitions and introduces a proposed harmonized\, goal-oriented definition applicable to chemicals\, pharmaceuticals\, and basic research. \nParticipants will explore how this harmonized definition can be applied to determine whether specific technologies qualify as NAMs\, and how these approaches relate to—but remain distinct from—the 3Rs principles. The webinar will also introduce the concept of Refinement-Enabling Innovations (REIs) and examine categories of technologies that fall outside the proposed NAMs framework\, including traditional in vivo models and certain refinement techniques. \nRegister for additional free live webinars and available webinar replays. \n\n \n \n\n\n \n\n \n \n \n \n Register For This Webinar\n \n \n \n \n\n\n \n \n \n \n First Name\n \n \n \n \n \n Last Name\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n Email Address\n \n \n \n \n \n Organization\n \n \n \n\n \n\n \n \n \n Please share your question for the presenter(s) here:\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n May we contact you about new CITI Program content and services after the webinar?\n \n \n \n \n Yes\n \n \n \n No\n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n Register Now\n \n\n \n Information you provide when registering will be shared with the account owner and host and can be used and shared by them in accordance with their Terms and Privacy Policy.

SUMMARY:Free Webinar Replay - Being Creative when Applying the IRB Exemptions: Part 1
DESCRIPTION:Being Creative when Applying the IRB Exemptions: Part 1\nMonday\, June 22\, 2026 at 9:30 a.m. ET\nThis previously released webinar reveals that IRB exemptions are underutilized because many institutions take a very conservative approach when applying them. Through discussion and examples\, this presentation will discuss the concept of exemptions and the role they play in regulated and unregulated research. This presentation will also point out flexibilities in applying the exemption criteria that are often overlooked.

SUMMARY:Free Webinar Replay - DOJ Bulk Data Transfer Rule
DESCRIPTION:DOJ Bulk Data Transfer Rule\nMonday\, June 22\, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. ET\nThis previously released webinar introduces the Department of Justice’s new Bulk Data Transfer Rule (also called the Data Security Program Rule)\, which regulates transfers of sensitive health\, genomic\, and personal data to certain foreign countries. We will first examine why the rule was issued\, focusing on its national security and policy foundations\, and then outline its key requirements\, covered data\, and institutional implications. Determining applicability and organizational responsibilities requires a careful inventory of data. Attendees will gain both a primer on the rule itself and perspective on how it signals broader regulatory shifts in data governance\, research\, and compliance.

SUMMARY:Free Webinar Replay - Controlled Unclassified Information – What it is\, Isn’t\, and University Obligations
DESCRIPTION:Controlled Unclassified Information – What it is\, Isn’t\, and University Obligations\nMonday\, June 22\, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. ET\nThis previously released webinar discusses that while Controlled Unclassified Information\, or CUI\, has been a formal concept in the Federal Register since the issuance of the final rule of 32 CFR Part 2002 on September 14\, 2016\, confusion persists around what it is\, what it isn’t\, and how universities and university research is impacted by it. This webinar provides a better understanding of 32 CFR Part 2002\, including the safeguarding requirements.

SUMMARY:Free Webinar Replay - Aggregate Safety Assessment Planning and IND Safety Reporting
DESCRIPTION:Aggregate Safety Assessment Planning and IND Safety Reporting\nMonday\, June 22\, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. ET\nThis previously released webinar discusses that according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)\, IND safety reporting needs to be supported by ongoing systematic assessment of the product’s safety data from all sources. This webinar examines the Aggregate Safety Assessment Planning (ASAP) process as a mechanism for meeting this guidance. The ASAPlanning document (updated over time)\, along with its Safety Surveillance Plan (SSP) appendix\, provides comprehensive product-level safety assessment planning\, which guides the systematic ongoing review of safety data from all completed and continuing clinical trials throughout development.

SUMMARY:Free Webinar Replay - Managing Compassion Fatigue: A Pillar of a Culture of Care
DESCRIPTION:Managing Compassion Fatigue: A Pillar of a Culture of Care\nMonday\, June 22\, 2026 at 3:30 p.m. ET\nThis previously released webinar discusses how compassion fatigue\, a form of secondary traumatic stress\, affects animal care personnel due to exposure to distressing situations. It poses risks to staff well-being and research quality. A Culture of Care is built on four pillars: strong science\, animal welfare\, human well-being\, and communication. Human well-being\, as one pillar\, focuses on empathetic support to address challenges like compassion fatigue. Strategies include self-care\, mindfulness\, and professional development\, alongside institutional measures like debriefing sessions\, leadership training\, and flexible scheduling. Tools such as ProQOL assessments and resiliency frameworks\, supported by the University of Washington’s D2C and the 3Rs Collaborative\, may help mitigate its impact.

SUMMARY:ICH S7A and New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) in Safety Pharmacology
DESCRIPTION:The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)\, in collaboration with the Health and Environmental Sciences Institute (HESI) and the Safety Pharmacology Society (SPS)\, will host a hybrid public workshop titled “ICH S7A and New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) in Safety Pharmacology” on July 28\, 2026. This one-day event will bring together representatives from regulatory agencies and industry to discuss potential revisions to the International Council for Harmonisation (ICH) S7A guideline. The workshop is intended to gather stakeholder perspectives\, explore scientific considerations\, and support the development of a cohesive framework for integrating new approach methodologies (NAMs) into safety pharmacology. \nThe meeting will focus on sharing real-world experiences and fostering dialogue around the application of NAMs\, including their benefits\, limitations\, and implementation timelines. Discussions will also address the evolving regulatory landscape\, particularly efforts to reduce reliance on animal testing and evaluate alternative models. \nWorkshop objectives: \n\nEstablish a shared\, cross-regional understanding of NAMs in safety pharmacology\nClarify regulatory opportunities and constraints for NAM inclusion in S7A\nDefine clear\, discipline-specific NAM use cases relevant to S7A\nDevelop actionable recommendations and next steps to support NAM integration into S7A\n\nWhile the workshop will not result in immediate changes to regulatory guidance\, insights generated during the event are expected to inform future policy considerations and contribute to the advancement of safety evaluation practices. \nThis event will be held both in-person and online. \nVisit the event page for more information.
