R. Bruce Thompson, PhD

University of Southern Maine

Robert Bruce Thompson (Bruce) is a developmental psychologist and directs the Maine Regulatory Training and Ethics Center (MeRTEC). His research and teaching activities related to ethics and regulatory compliance stem from his broad interest in metacognitive reasoning as a developmental process in children and adults. Specific areas of study explore the effects of stress and poverty on critical thinking and mindfulness. He also serves as the Chair of USM’s Institutional Review Board (IRB). Bruce received his Master’s degree in Psychology from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland, and his Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from The University of Edinburgh, Scotland.
