Sandra Upegui, JD, CIPM

Sandra began her career as a litigator at a Florida law firm. Subsequently, she joined the University of Miami as an Assistant General Counsel and advised on legal and regulatory issues involving risk management, privacy and security, and other research compliance matters. She worked closely with the HIPAA Office, Human Subject Research Office and IRB at the University of Miami. ​In 2022, Sandra joined Public Library of Science, a non-profit open-science publisher, as General Counsel and currently oversee the Legal Department, which includes privacy compliance and risk management. She is also the company’s Data Privacy Officer.
