NIH Research on Addressing Violence to Improve Health Outcomes

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) released a “Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Research on Addressing Violence to Improve Health Outcomes.” This notice highlights NIH’s interest in improving individual-level health processes and outcomes by addressing the role of violence in these outcomes and encouraging intervention research in health care settings.

Research Objectives

Research should aimed at developing, refining, adapting, and testing interventions focused on preventing violence or addressing the effects of violence on physical and mental health. The notice aims to:

  • Encourage interventions for the treatment and prevention of violence victimization and perpetration across different populations in settings where other health conditions are treated.
  • Encourage interventions that seek to translate basic behavioral and social science research findings into innovative treatment approaches.
  • Encourage effectiveness, implementation, and hybrid effectiveness-implementation designs.
