Navy CORES Program at University of New Haven Includes CITI Program Training

The Office of Naval Research gave 12 students the opportunity to participate in cutting-edge cybersecurity research as part of the Cyber Operative REsearch Scholars (CORES) program at the University of New Haven. This rigorous yearlong research residency opportunity split the group into two teams where along with their research, they completed CITI Program content on Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) topics like data management, mentoring, and collaborative research. CORES aims to meet the rising need for a workforce highly trained in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. As part of the program’s inaugural symposium, participants were given the opportunity to present their findings to government and military cyber leaders and were recognized for their work in areas such as digital forensics and artificial intelligence security. The two teams will now submit their work for review to academic journals and conferences.

CITI Program’s RCR Courses

RCR covers core norms, principles, regulations, and rules governing the practice of research. It consists of a basic course, additional content that can be incorporated based on organizational and learner needs, and a refresher course, which reemphasizes and expands on key concepts. It is suitable for any person involved in research ranging from upper-level undergraduates to established faculty.
