The acronym “NAMs” is used inconsistently across scientific and regulatory communities, contributing to confusion and misaligned expectations. This webinar examines the evolving landscape of NAMs definitions and introduces a proposed harmonized, goal-oriented definition applicable to chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and basic research.
Participants will explore how this harmonized definition can be applied to determine whether specific technologies qualify as NAMs, and how these approaches relate to—but remain distinct from—the 3Rs principles. The webinar will also introduce the concept of Refinement-Enabling Innovations (REIs) and examine categories of technologies that fall outside the proposed NAMs framework, including traditional in vivo models and certain refinement techniques.
