The Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) at ETSU needs a driven IRB Specialist to support our mission of conducting impactful research safely and ethically. In this dynamic role, you will serve as a central point of contact in helping ETSU researchers navigate the IRB approval process.
You will foster relationships across departments to coordinate compliance reviews and ensure all research protocols adhere to regulations. As a liaison between our faculty, university offices, health partners, and funding agencies, you will help translate complex compliance requirements into clear guidelines our research community can follow.
This hands-on position allows you to stay on the cutting edge of human subjects research. Maintain an advanced understanding of federal standards and consult one-on-one with investigators as they develop novel studies. Oversee the IRB review process with care and expertise, supporting life-changing discoveries while protecting participants.

Qualifications:
IRB Review Specialist I
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and
Two (2) years of professional experience; OR equivalent combination of experience and education.
IRB Review Specialist II
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and
Three (3) years of experience in research compliance administration; OR equivalent combination of experience and education.
IRB Review Specialist III (or Senior IRB Specialist)
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; and
Six (6) years of experience in research compliance administration; OR four (4) years of human research compliance administration experience with an advanced degree. **The experience should be a combination of progressively responsible research compliance experience with some experience working directly with IRBs.
Certified IRB Professional (CIP) credential, or must obtain within 1 year of hire.
Experience with biomedical, behavioral, and social sciences human research, knowledge of international ethical codes and regulations governing human subjects research.
