The University at Albany (SUNY) is pleased to share an opening for a Research Security Administrator (RSA) within the Office of Regulatory and Research Compliance (ORRC). This position is located in Albany, New York and is eligible for a hybrid (remote/in‑person) work arrangement.
Salary Range: $65,000–$80,000

About the Role
The Research Security Administrator supports UAlbany’s research compliance and security mission by working closely with faculty, staff, students, and multiple university offices. ORRC promotes research conducted with integrity, security, and the highest ethical standards. The RSA helps ensure the University, its researchers, and the Research Foundation for SUNY meet regulatory, sponsor, and institutional obligations while enabling research to be shared broadly and safely.

Key Responsibilities
- Advise and support researchers on research security requirements, including export controls, foreign influence, data security, and disclosure obligations
- Manage and coordinate data use agreements, serving as the primary point of contact for researchers
- Review contracts and research activities for export control, foreign influence, boycott, and data security concerns
- Support international visiting scholar and foreign travel reviews
- Conduct risk assessments and collaborate with ITS to safeguard digital research data
- Participate in campus committees related to research security and compliance
- Develop and deliver training and outreach programs (in-person and virtual) on research security topics
- Prepare guidance materials such as checklists, decision trees, and training resources
- Perform additional duties in support of the institution’s research mission
Required Qualifications
- Due to U.S. export control regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or other protected individual
- Bachelor’s degree plus two years of relevant professional experience (e.g., research administration, export compliance, contracts, conflict of interest management)
- Experience interpreting, applying, or writing regulations, laws, or institutional policies
- At least one year of experience in areas such as research ethics, export controls, risk management, international affairs, or compliance
- Demonstrated experience providing training to diverse audiences
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to analyze complex concepts and translate them into clear, accessible guidance
- Proficiency with contemporary office technologies
- Commitment to developing inclusive and equitable relationships within a diverse campus community
Preferred Qualifications
- Juris Doctor or other advanced degree
- Experience at a research‑intensive institution
- Experience with export controls, audits/oversight, research policy development, or human subjects and/or animal research compliance
