The University of Vermont (UVM) is seeking a full-time Assistant Director to lead the team supporting animal research and research using biohazardous materials. The Assistant Director will report to the Research Protections Office which is the unit responsible for administering the University’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), Controlled Substance Committee (CSC), and the Institutional Review Boards (IRB). The Assistant Director will provide administrative oversight of all IACUC, IBC, and CSC research compliance activities. Key responsibilities include:
· Administrative operations to include staffing, communications and website presence, software evaluation
· Committee administration requiring subject matter expertise, institutional leadership liaising, policy and procedure development, advisee
· Education, Communication and Outreach by leading and executing educational outreach activities, providing leadership in implementing communication strategies and principles for internal and external communications, participation in professional networking and collaborations
· Quality and Oversight to include development and supervision of post approval monitoring programs, principle in non-compliance investigations, metrics review and procedural improvements
Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in scientific/life sciences (or relevant field), six or more years of experience in research compliance, and minimally two years of supervisory experience. Demonstrated analytical, organizational, verbal and written communication skills are a must. Professional certification in one of the covered regulatory compliance areas (CIP or CPIA) is desirable.
