Research institutions are entrusted with the critical duty of ensuring unbiased research. COGR’s latest report, titled “Analyzing Personal Financial and Institutional Conflicts of Interest in Academic Research Contexts,” sheds light on the most common situations in which personal financial and institutional conflicts of interest issues arise, including consulting, licensing, and clinical studies.
The report also provides valuable insights into federal research funding agencies’ recent emphasis on addressing conflicts of interest and undue foreign influence. It includes important regulations and guidance documents, along with case studies that can facilitate productive discussions and support educational efforts. The report consists of four sections:
- Overview of Types of COIs and Applicable Regulations
- Conflicts in the Context of Malign Foreign Influence
- Common Situations in Which Various Types of Conflicts of Interest Arise
- Concluding Remarks
This report builds upon COGR’s previous publication, “Principles for Conflict of Commitment Concerns in Academic Research,” released in 2021. Visit COGR’s Conflict of Interest/Conflict of Commitment policy page to view the complete report and other important updates.
