On Campus with CITI Program Podcast: Recap of Episodes 1-7

“On Campus with CITI Program” is a biweekly podcast launched in January 2022 and hosted by Darren Gaddis, Assistant Director of Content and Education at CITI Program. The podcast focuses on higher education centric topics and engages with experts in the field. Campus Safety

“On Campus with CITI Program” launched in January 2022 with Melinda Latas, Director of Systemwide Clery and Campus Safety Compliance at California State University as the inaugural guest. Melinda spoke about the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, a federal law signed in 1990 that requires institutions of higher education to disclose information regarding campus security. Since the first episode of “On Campus with CITI Program” in January 2022, other guests have included: Jason Heil, JD – University of California, San Francisco; Ed Purchase, MPA – University of North Carolina System; Abigail Ogden, BS – University of California, Berkeley; and Amber Grove, JD – University of North Carolina, Wilmington.

COVID-19

Philip Chan, MD, MS, an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine and School of Public Health at Brown University spoke to “On Campus with CITI Program” in January 2022 about COVID-19, variants, and implications for higher education institutions. COVID-19 is caused by a coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2. Since March 2020, more than 53 millions COVID-19 cases have been reported in the United States alone. Throughout the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, multiple variants of concern have become the dominant strain of the virus, such as Delta and Omicron.

Student Support

In March 2022, “On Campus with CITI Program” spoke to Inika Williams, the Statewide Director of Pre-Collegiate Programs and Mentoring Initiatives with the Florida Department of Education about supporting nontraditional students at higher education institutions. Nontraditional students in the United States make up a large portion of college and university students, nearly 74%, according to a 2015 study conducted by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).
