FAQs

Who should take the course?

The Conflicts of Interest and Commitment (Other Federal Sponsors) course is intended for key personnel/covered individuals and others who may be subject to training requirements associated with funding from these federal sponsors or interested in learning more about these requirements.

What are the benefits of this course?

Learners will gain a deeper understanding of the conflicts of interest and commitment responsibilities that individuals and organizations have when funded by these federal sponsors. The course is online, asynchronous, and on-demand, so learners may revisit topics as needed. Case studies further enhance the course.

Can the selection of modules be customized?

As with most CITI Program courses, subscribing organizations may select the modules that are presented to their learners. We recommend that organizations create courses for learners depending on the training requirements associated with their federal funding. For example, a course for National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded researchers that contains the Overview of Conflicts of Interest, Overview of Conflicts of Commitment, and the two NSF modules would constitute one course, and a course for U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)-funded researchers that contains Overview of Conflicts of Interest, Overview of Conflicts of Commitment, and the two DOE modules would constitute a second course.

In addition, the course contains a module designed for research administrators and their role in the management of COIs and COCs.  This module may be used in conjunction with the COI and COC modules for a research administrator-focused course.

How long will the course take to complete?

The two overview modules and the funding agency-specific modules (e.g., NSF or DOE) will take a learner approximately one and half hours.
