This webinar will provide an overview of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Unified Funding Strategy, an approach designed to support transparent, flexible, and informed funding decisions across NIH Institutes and Centers. NIH leadership will discuss the strategy’s goals, implementation, and role in strengthening communication with applicants, recipients, researchers, and the broader extramural research community.

The session will also examine how NIH funding decisions incorporate peer review assessments alongside factors such as scientific opportunity, program priorities, workforce needs, and portfolio balance. Attendees will learn how the strategy reinforces the importance of peer review while considering the full range of reviewer feedback, including scientific strengths, concerns, differing expert opinions, and innovative research opportunities.
