CITI Program honors our co-founder, the late Dr. Paul Braunschweiger (1947–2024), through the annual Dr. Paul Braunschweiger Scholarship, which provides funds for an emerging professional to attend a conference in research ethics. The award supports participation in events focused on the care and use of animals in research, human subjects protections, responsible conduct of research, and core areas of research compliance or administration. This scholarship continues Dr. Braunschweiger’s legacy of strengthening research integrity through education and professional development.

A Scholarship in Action: Reflections from the 2025 PRIM&R Conference

As the 2024 scholarship recipient, Amy Mutore, BA, Senior IACUC/IBC Coordinator at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, attended the 2025 PRIM&R Conference. Her participation exemplifies how scholarship-supported professional development can expand knowledge, enhance skills, and inspire new approaches within research programs.

Reflecting on her experience, Amy shared:

“Attending the 2025 PRIM&R conference was an overwhelmingly positive experience. I found the sessions to be insightful and practical. Many that I attended offered valuable updates on regulatory trends and innovative strategies that I was immediately able to apply in my day-to-day work. There were actually so many options for presentations that I struggled choosing which sessions to attend during the conference and have gone back to view additional presentations since the conference conclusion. The platform worked so well that even with attending virtually, I was able to connect with colleagues from other institutions, making new professional relationships. The keynote speakers and IACUC specific presentations were engaging and thought-provoking, leaving me feeling excited and better equipped to bring fresh ideas back to my program.”

Her reflections highlight how the scholarship equips professionals with new insights, valuable networks, and tools to advance research ethics and compliance.
