Impact Developing the People Who Develop Others

Why Knowledge Transfer Matters

Organizations rely on experienced employees, managers, faculty, and subject-matter experts to onboard, mentor, and develop others. But expertise alone doesn’t guarantee effective knowledge transfer.

Developing the people responsible for teaching and guiding others can help organizations:

  • Strengthen onboarding and employee development
  • Share expertise more effectively across teams
  • Reduce dependence on individual experts
  • Preserve institutional knowledge
  • Promote greater consistency across departments
  • Prepare employees for changing responsibilities
  • Support organizational continuity and risk management

Effective knowledge transfer isn’t simply about providing information. It’s about helping people understand, retain, and apply what they need to know.

"Organizations do not simply depend on expertise. They depend on their ability to pass that expertise on.” CITI Program
