HHS Establishes the Advanced Research Project Agency for Health (ARPA-H)

The United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has formally established ARPA-H, the Advanced Research Project Agency for Health, with the goal of improving the U.S. government’s ability to accelerate transformative biomedical and health research and to continue the successes of the U.S. biomedical enterprise.

Adam H. Russell, DPhil, Chief Scientist at University of Maryland’s Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS), has been appointed as acting deputy director. His extensive multi-disciplinary experience, will guide the creation of  ARPA-H’s initial administrative structure and help him oversee the hiring of operational staff to ensure an efficient and effective launch.
