Senate Confirms Robert Califf as New Commissioner of the FDA

The Senate recently confirmed Robert Califf, a prominent cardiologist with extensive clinical research experience, as the commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) by the narrowest margin in the agency’s history. Although Califf was a controversial candidate, he was endorsed by six former FDA commissioners and previously held the position for 11 months until ousted by former President Trump. The agency now has a permanent leader to fill the role that has been empty for almost 400 days. One of his first actions will be to establish his advisory team, which will include acting commissioner and longtime FDA regulator, Janet Woodcock, as principal deputy commissioner.

See the FDA’s press announcement page for the upcoming release on Robert Califf’s confirmation.
