About this Course

This video-based course provides learners with the tools to successfully complete an accident (incident) investigation and implement corrective actions. Investigating a worksite accident provides employers and workers the opportunity to identify hazards in their operations and shortcomings in their safety and health programs. Most importantly, it enables employers and workers to identify and implement the corrective actions necessary to prevent future accidents.

This module presents the history of the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration as a foundation for the discussion of accident investigations. Learners then explore when to conduct accident investigations and the goals and steps of such investigations. The module concludes by describing the difference between an incident and an accident, the costs of accidents, and how to report an accident.

In this module, learners review the steps in the investigation process and how to implement a process for notifying investigators when an incident occurs. The module also provides an overview of the types of forms that should be created and completed as part of the investigation process.
