About this Course

This video-based course builds on the first two courses in this series to prepare learners for submission to the NIH SBIR-STTR program. The course begins with a review of the NIH review process. Learners then explore writing the NIH SBIR-STTR proposal. The course includes a detailed discussion of the proposal submission process. The course ends with a discussion of the award-to-implementation continuum.

Course Content

The NIH Review Process

This module begins with an overview of how NIH proposals are reviewed and scored.  Learners are then presented with strategies for responding to specific SBIR-STTR review criteria. The module concludes with a review of NIH study sections.

Writing the NIH SBIR-STTR Proposal

In this module, learners are presented with the major components of an NIH proposal. The module includes a discussion of the overall organization of the NIH SBIR-STTR research plan section. Lastly, learners review the contribution of proposal componets to the review score.

Proposal Submission

This module provides learners with a review of the roles of those involved in NIH proposal submission. The module includes a discussion of the overall process of NIH proposal submission. The module concludes with resources to aid in NIH proposal submission and post-submission tracking.

From Award to Implementation

In this last module, learners explore critical elements of the award to implementation continuum. The module begins with a discussion of the items that may be part of “Just in Time” requests. The module then discusses how to interpret a notice of award.  From there, learners review the process of accessing and paying out grant funds, and learn how to identify critical grant reporting requirements. The module ends with a discussion on how to formulate a plan to transition to a Phase II award.
