About this Course

This video-based series explores the National Science Foundation’s SBIR-STTR program. Learners begin with an overview of SBIR and STTR and specifically the NSF and what makes it different. From there, the series explores the project pitch, planning an SBIR, and the project description. The series concludes with a detailed review of elements of the proposal including budgets; biosketches; and facilities, equipment, and other resources.

Course Content

NSF Overview

In this first module, learners gain foundational knowledge related to the SBIR program. The module includes a discussion on the goal of SBIR-STTR programs as well as specifics associated with characteristics of the small business. The module also discusses the differences between SBIR and STTR. The module concludes with an NSF overview, what makes the NSF different, and the broader discussion of the elements of an NSF review.

NSF Project Description Elements

In this module, learners review the project pitch. From there the discussion leads the learner to planning their SBIR. The module ends with a discussion of the project description and important elements learners must be aware of as they develop their description.

NSF Other Key Elements of the Phase I

In this last module, learners explore other key elements of the Phase I proposal including budgets and a discussion of direct costs, indirect costs, and fees. The module also discusses biosketches as well as facilities, equipment, and other resources. The module ends with a review of Research.gov.
