Dual Use Research of Concern (DURC) offers detailed training on the United States Government Policy for Oversight of Dual Use Research of Concern and Pathogens with Enhanced Pandemic Potential (updated to the policy effective May 2025). The course is based on the 2024 policy and focuses on research oversight to increase the awareness of biosafety and biosecurity and the implementation of risk mitigation. The U.S. Government Policy for Oversight of Dual Use Research of Concern and Pathogens with Enhanced Pandemic Potential applies to research from the proposal stage through funding, research activities, and publication.
Important Notice: The U.S. Government Policy for Stopping High-Risk Life Sciences Research, released in July 2026, establishes a new framework for the oversight of certain high-risk life sciences research and replaces previous federal DURC oversight policies. CITI Program is reviewing the policy and considering its implications for this course and related educational resources.
