The Office of Strategic Planning (OSP), in collaboration with the Center for Information and Study on Clinical Research Participation (CISCRP), will be hosting a listening session focused on strategies for engaging the public as partners in clinical research. This session follows the NIH’s announcement of launching the first public outreach phase for the new ENGAGE Initiative.
All members of the public are welcome to share their thoughts and experiences on engagement in clinical research during this virtual listening session. Registration for this event is required.
Topics Covered
The session will begin with welcome remarks by Ken Getz from CISCRP and Lyric Jorgenson from NIH. Following this, Suzanne Bakken from Columbia University and Christin Veasley from the Chronic Pain Research Alliance will discuss the importance of engagement in clinical research and the progress of the Working Group on Engaging the Public as Partners in Clinical Research. The main segment will be a public comment period where individuals, patients, and community members can share their perspectives on effective partnerships between researchers and the public, resources and incentives for open communication, the role of research funders, and factors that influence public willingness to engage with research institutions. The session will conclude with closing remarks.
