Just ASK™: Introduction to Equity and Diversity in Clinical Research and Trial Participation is designed to provide learners with a foundational understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion within the realm of biomedical research and clinical trial participation. The course delves into the factors contributing to low engagement among underserved race and ethnic groups and other historically underrepresented populations, shedding light on the barriers that hinder participation in crucial research endeavors. By the end of the program, learners will have gained valuable insights into strategies for promoting inclusivity and diversity, enabling them to incorporate a health equity perspective into their study plans.
Throughout the course, you will acquire the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to more equitable clinical trial practices. This includes discussing the importance of diverse participation in clinical trials, recognizing the current state of diversity in such trials, and defining and understanding the significance of health disparities. Furthermore, you will explore the distinctions between health equity and equality, grasp the impact of implicit bias, stereotypes, and assumptions, and discuss key questions to ask when developing a clinical research diversity strategy. The course is tailored to empower individuals with the tools necessary to foster a mindful and intentional approach to engaging all populations in biomedical research, ultimately promoting a more inclusive and representative landscape in clinical trials.
