Congratulations to Sean P. Coyne, PhD, an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology at Washington & Jefferson College and a Research Associate at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. He will attend the Scientists Center for Animal Welfare (SCAW) Annual Winter Conference in December as the 2023 recipient of the annual Dr. Paul Braunschweiger Scholarship program, which provides funds for an emerging professional to attend a conference in research ethics.

Dr. Coyne’s research program is focused on studying stress physiology and development in animal models and humans. He also focuses on studying captive animal welfare to increase the health and well-being of animals under human supervision.

  • He is the inaugural IACUC Chair at Washington & Jefferson College.
  • He has worked with a wide variety of species, including primates, penguins, polar bears, and Panamanian golden frogs (but is perfectly willing to work with species that begin with a letter other than “p”).
  • He teaches courses in neuroscience, introductory psychology, comparative psychology, and learning & motivation.

Be on the lookout for the 2024 Dr. Paul Braunschweiger Scholarship Application coming this Summer.
