Description
Action research helps practitioners study and improve their own work by connecting inquiry, action, reflection, and collaboration. This course introduces the foundations of action research, including how it differs from traditional research, program evaluation, and case study methods; how to identify problems of practice and develop measurable objectives; how to use literature, context, and participant input to guide inquiry; and how to collect, analyze, report, and disseminate findings responsibly. Learners also explore ethical and political considerations, Institutional Review Board (IRB) processes, data collection and rigor, transferability, stakeholder communication, and the role of dissemination in supporting social or organizational change.

Barbara Packer, EdD – Nova Southeastern University
Dr. Packer is Co-Director of the Razor’s Edge Research and Global Scholars Program at Nova Southeastern University. She teaches and administers programs in research and global issues and has served as a mentor for action research dissertations for students at the undergraduate and graduate levels for more than 30 years.

Dana Mills, PhD – Nova Southeastern University
Dana Scott Mills, PhD, is Associate Dean of Research and Strategic Planning at Nova Southeastern University. A psychologist and research methodologist, he has extensive experience in statistics, program evaluation, graduate education, and applied research across psychology, education, public health, and the health sciences.
