About this Course

CITI Program and the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) have brought together recognized institutions to contribute and present materials in preparation for the return to campuses. This complimentary course provides an overview of COVID-19, prevention strategies, recommended laboratory practices, and points to consider as students, staff, and faculty move forward to a return to activities and operations within medical school and research institution settings. Supplemental modules focused on topics related to research with human subjects, animal care and use, and working with patients who may be infected or suspected with COVID-19 provide learners the option to review these topics if applicable to their current work or school setting.

COVID-19: An Introduction

This module provides an introduction to COVID-19, including an overview of zoonotic infections, coronaviruses, and the symptoms and risk factors associated with COVID-19. The module also provides an overview of how COVID-19 spreads and prevention strategies.

COVID-19: Prevention Strategies

Presented by: Maya P. Nair, PhD, RBP - University of North Texas Health Sciences Center

This module reviews transmission information as a foundation for an in-depth review of social distancing guidelines across different settings (public spaces, elevators/stairwells, and laboratories), hygiene best practices, face coverings in general settings. This module concludes with a discussion of cleaning, including cleaning personal workspaces, shared workspaces, and shared workspaces in laboratory settings.

COVID-19: Moving Forward

This module summarizes prevention techniques. Learners are then presented with recommendations for care should they feel that they have been exposed to (or have been diagnosed with) COVID-19. The module concludes with a review of techniques to consider for overall mental health and personal wellbeing.

FAQs

Until What Date Will COVID-19: Back to Campus be available?

Access to the 2020-2023 course has been extended and will now be available until March 1, 2023. Learners must complete the course by then to receive a completion report. Note that completion reports will still be available after March 1, 2023.

If my organization subscribes to CITI Program, will we be able to access completion information for the COVID-19: Back to Campus (2020-2023) course after March 1, 2023

Yes, completion information remains available to subscribing organizations even after the course is no longer available to learners.

Our institution is affiliated with a subscribing organization. May we access this course through that affiliation?

No. The course is available for free to non-subscribing organizations. However, each legally separate entity must request direct access to the course by having a decision-maker submit the requisite form.

My organization does not subscribe to CITI Program, what are our options?

Organizations that do not subscribe to CITI Program can still provide access to their learners by registering for this course at no charge. During registration, organizations can request a course usage report to facilitate the tracking of completions. To register for this course, please fill out this form.

Is this course available to independent learners?

No. This course is only available through your organization. The request to add the course must come from a senior decision-maker at each independent organization.

Does this course meet state or local training requirements?

State or local training requirements vary. Some states, including California, Connecticut, Illinois, New York, Massachusetts, Michigan, Vermont, and Washington, have recently announced regulations mandating COVID-19 safety training for all employees before/upon their return to work. Organizations should review applicable requirements. The course provides information on the following key areas:

  • History of COVID-19
  • How COVID-19 is transmitted
  • Symptoms of COVID-19
  • Proper cough and sneeze etiquette
  • High risk populations
  • Social distancing requirements across different settings (including laboratories)
  • Face coverings, including how to put on, wear, and remove
  • Use of gloves
  • When to wash hands/how to wash hands
  • Cleaning personal workspaces, shared spaces, and laboratory spaces
  • What an individual should do if they think they are sick or have been exposed to COVID-19
  • When to seek medical and emergency care, including serious symptoms to watch for

Can my organization customize the course?

Your organization may add custom modules to provide organization-specific (or state/local required information beyond what is covered in the course) to further enhance the course for your learners or to meet applicable state/local requirements. Customization of the course requires additional fees. Please complete the COVID-19: Back to Campus Request Form and a member of our sales team will reach out to discuss further details.

Can we host this course on our learning management system?

We are not currently offering this option, but CITI Program’s learning management system offers Single Sign-On and automated download capability, which should make the integration of access and data seamless.

What if my organization wants to contribute content to the course for use by all other organizations?

COVID-19: Back to Campus (2020-2023) is an example of the academic community coming together to create content to assist organizations as they return to their campuses. CITI Program invites organizations that have content to contribute to submit their contact information via the Submit Your Content Ideas form.

Is this course available for immediate access?

This course is now available to all organizations through March 1, 2023. CITI Program has not determined future availability or any fees associated with the COVID-19: Back to Campus course after March 1, 2023.

Does CITI Program offer a contact tracing course?

Yes. CITI Program offers Remote Contact Tracing, a complimentary course to train individuals to conduct remote contact tracing for COVID-19. Remote Contact Training and COVID-19: Back to Campus are both added to your organization's account upon completion of the request form. Add courses now.
