CITI Program wishes to convey our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Jerry Castellano, Pharm.D. Dr. Castellano was an ardent supporter of the biomedical sciences and a sensitive, dedicated advocate for the protection of human research subjects.

He served as a corporate director of Christiana Care’s Institutional Review Board (serving for over 35 years on the IRB). In 2018, Dr. Castellano received the ARENA Legacy Award from PRIM&R, honoring his longstanding leadership in the field of applied research ethics.

For more than two decades, Dr. Castellano was an important contributor to the development and growth of the CITI Program, a web-based research ethics education program used by more than 1.5 million learners annually. He served on the CITI Program External Advisory Board for the past ten years. Through his efforts, Christiana Care was the first organization to join the CITI Program family in 2001.

Dr. Castellano’s intellect, expertise in clinical trials management, dedication to the CITI Program’s success, and commitment to the protection of human research subjects will be greatly missed by the CITI Program and the broader biomedical research community. We remain eternally grateful for his illustrious contributions to research ethics, science, and patient care.
