Description
Natural or human-influenced disasters and emergencies require institutions to strategize and implement business continuity plans to resume research operations after the resolution or dissipation of the situation. This course serves as a guide to evaluate and effectively execute reactivation strategies for research previously stopped or “ramped down” due to an emergent situation. It complements the Disaster Planning for the Research Enterprise course, which provides information about disaster preparedness and business continuity planning in research.

Meet the Authors
Randy A. Albrecht, PhD – Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai
Dr. Albrecht directs biomedical research focused on host-pathogen interactions involving respiratory viruses and has over 15 years of biocontainment research experience. He serves as the institutional Senior Director of Biosafety and Responsible Official for Select Agents and Toxins. He is a member of the American Biological Safety Association (ABSA).
Kelly Fusco, CPIA – Yale University
Kelly Fusco, CPIA, has more than 20 years of experience in IACUC administration for Yale University, including service on several committees, when she served as Associate Director. Currently, she continues her career in regulatory oversight within the Yale University Office of Research Administration.
Mandy Kozlowski, MS, CPIA – Northwestern University
Mandy began her career as an IACUC Coordinator at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago. After obtaining the CPIA certification, she transitioned from Post-Approval Monitoring Coordinator and Assistant IACUC Office Director to her current role as the IACUC Office Director at Northwestern University.

Mark has 20+ years IT experience in planning and implementing IT solutions including security and business continuity. He has innovated solutions for industry leaders in multiple vertical markets.
Dawn O’Connor, LVT, CPIA – University of Michigan
Dawn E. O’Connor, Assistant Director in the Animal Care and Use Office of the University of Michigan, has twenty-three years of regulatory compliance experience with 10 years of laboratory animal experience as a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) in a large biomedical research program.
Challace Pahlevan-Ibrekic, MBE, CIP – Northwell Health
As a trained Bioethicist and career research regulatory professional, Challace Pahlevan-Ibrekic, MBE, CIP has provided biomedical and behavioral research oversight for almost two decades. Her current scope is regulatory oversight of transformative biomedical and behavioral research. This includes ethical considerations for artificial intelligence across different research and clinical spectrums.
Alavy Sos, MS – Children’s National Hospital
Alavy is a research compliance executive with 18 years of experience in corporate compliance, regulatory affairs, research compliance, and research ethics.
