Description

The Handling Allegations of Research Misconduct course introduces the research misconduct process, including the key roles involved and the phases of a misconduct proceeding. Learners will:

  • Distinguish among types of research misconduct.
  • Understand the difference between authorship disputes and plagiarism.
  • Examine the purposes of assessments, inquiries, and investigations.
  • Recognize the practical and procedural challenges throughout the research misconduct process.
  • Learn the difference between honest error and intentional, knowing, or reckless acts.
  • Understand how to apply the criteria for making a finding of research misconduct.

This course is meant to supplement the training provided in CITI Program’s Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) series.
